TIW began its activities with the maintenance of oil fields. In the late 1910s, advances in rotary drilling enabled massive oil production in Texas and other areas along the Gulf Coast. And on April 10, 1917, the history of the Texas Iron Works begins.

The headquarters was in Houston, and mechanical production was deployed in Goose Creek. Now there is a state-of-the-art processing center Bytoun. Gradually, requests for tools became more and more massive. And from the first years of its work, TIW began to listen to consumers and satisfy their needs as much as possible.

For about 100 years, the company has been a leader in the implementation of original tools and technologies in the industrial sector. Up until the 1990s, the TIW name satisfied both the firm and its customers. However, at that moment, the expansion of activities had already reached a large degree. And so I had to enter another name — TIW Corporation. And in 2016, this company joined Dril-Quip Incorporated, one of the largest international concerns in terms of offshore drilling and related production equipment.

The first block drawworks was produced back in 1932. 9 years later, the company patents an automatic packer that allows the well to be plugged. And since 1954, TIW packers have become the industry standard for quality. Similar technological solutions are beginning to be applied all over the planet. Since 1964 there has been a gold seal ring for packers that works reliably. And in 1983, the company completes the patent procedure for a hydraulic sleeve suspension with an autonomous port.

TIW holds other patents, including a rotating manifold for cementing, a device for adjusting hydraulic release devices, expandable hangers and packers, and emissions reduction solutions. In 2011, a special borehole jack appeared, designed for the highest possible load.

Retrievable HB Packer

The TIW® HB Series packers provide the ultimate in versatility, simplicity and reliability.
The HB-6 packer is designed specifically for high pressure wells while the HB packer is recommended for low to medium pressure applications. In addition, the HB-6 packer can be used for single or dual layer completions, test production, casing pressure testing, cementing, gravel packing, cleanup, stimulation and reservoir injection.
The main feature of such packers is the reliable position retention in contrast to downhole conditions. The economical HB packer is equipped with heavy duty single grip slips. The HB-6 packer is also equipped with heavy duty retaining slips for high pressure wells. In addition, the HB-6 packer features a positive lockout device that automatically protrudes in response to an increase in differential pressure from below the packer.
Running in, retrieving and resetting both HB Series packers is extremely easy thanks to the very large bypass zones. For landing, it is enough to turn it to the right a quarter of a turn. The packer is removed by pulling along the axis.

Peculiarities

  • Automatic lower device locks slips in retracted position
  • When lifting the tubing to the full stroke of the mandrel, rotation is not required
  • Heavy duty mandrel for maximum tear/collapse resistance
  • The HB-6 packer's bolt-on retaining slips are isolated from the tubing to prevent sticking when running into the well
  • Locking around the entire circumference after the slips are engaged
  • Full retraction of powerful three-piece slips during running in or out of the well

HB-BP Packer

The TIW® HB-BP Packer is a hydraulic fixed packer with a large seal valve at the top end. Designed for maximum strength and specifically designed as a disposable completion packer. Recommended for high head and high volume completed wells where it is desirable to have the benefits of a full bore system combined with the safety of flanged production equipment. At the end of the landing cycle, the sealing device with forced fixation, on which it is lowered into the well, is used for operation as a tubing landing nipple.
Depending on the movement of the tubing and the condition of the wellbore, it may be appropriate to use a retrievable PBR packer or a tubing splitter and positive-lock sealing device. Typical landing patterns are shown schematically.

Specific tools for the oil and gas industry

This is primarily about TIW liner hangers. Such devices are designed for operation in any well conditions, including deep horizontal drilling and wells for offshore oil production. Another plus is that it is the most reliable piece of equipment available to perform its respective function. Even with relatively simple drilling operations, this moment is strictly observed. TIW is ready to supply packers and liner hangers.

The range of products sold also includes tools and accessories for installation work and devices for cementing both surface and downhole versions. You can buy portal couplings and devices for staged cementing, units for fixing tailings from us. Liner complexes can be adjusted hydraulically or mechanically, including in an expandable format. Such devices are suitable for deployment, and for rotation, and for drilling

Liner hangers

We are talking about the TIW XPak complex, which is equipped with an expandable lining hanger. Such a device works well with typical linings. It is based on a proven method in the industry, allowing exceptionally high quality fixing and sealing of the lining from above.

A variety of mechanical and hydraulic hangers are also available for both single cone and multi-cone versions. TIW liner hangers are designed to maintain optimum performance and a high level of reliability. They are load-bearing and can do a good job of bypassing the liquid, withstanding the brute breaking force.

Top packers with liner

The role of such parts is to increase the reliability of sealing the gap separating the liner and casing. This seal is especially relevant in the upper segment of the tail block. Without it, the risk of destroying the reservoir and destabilizing the work is too great. Proper use of this technique prevents loss of fluid and involuntary movement of gas, regardless of the pressure applied.

TIW has a range of top packers for a variety of requirements. Among them there are models for low and medium loads. But the company also took care of the release of versions for extreme conditions. There are packers with seals made of different materials and having different designs. This allows you to adapt to the requirements of a particular environment, to the magnitude of the pressure exerted.

Noteworthy is the L-shaped top packer, model LX Liner Top Packet, plus the top packer with an HLX liner. Rig couplings allow you to effectively connect the drilling strings and the installation tool. As a result, the assembly completely transfers the load exerted on the shank. The set collars preferably include profiles for engagement with the cement sleeve and profiles for turning the liner assembly. Basically, the mounting collar already contains a connector for the future connection of the liner.

TIW supplies a variety of accessories to set up and perform a variety of downhole tasks. With this technique, operators can choose from several different scenarios when deploying liners. Often they are simply transferred to the well. In some cases, "right" suspensions of a mechanical type are mounted. It may be necessary to rotate the structure. And in a number of situations, it is even required to expand the liners or hydraulic descent. But do not worry — TIW will offer the best solution for each of these manipulations; optimal both from an economic and from an engineering point of view.

The ground equipment of this brand also deserves attention. We are talking about devices that ensure the injection of liquids into the liner and the descent of cement plugs. Such devices endure the tensile loads created by the liner and drill pipes. This is especially important if you have to support a top drive system or a swivel. The Tieback machine provides liner extension with a receiver.

This elongation may extend all the way to the surface or further along the opening. This approach guarantees high pressure sealing. It is achieved in both cemented and non-cemented linings. There are a lot of nipples with a reverse seal, as well as packers with a reverse lock, in the assortment of the company. This ensures successful reaming of liner tips and excellent repair work.

TIW’s innovative tools are great for well completions. They allow flexibility in mining and gravel packing, process intensification or testing. In all such cases, TIW packers perform very well and reliably. They are able both to simply finish in one zone, and to deal with complex ones in different zones, including horizontally and along other unusual trajectories, including those with extended well reach.

The proposed packers successfully solve all problems and help to optimize production capabilities. A striking example of this is the products of the HB series. Model HB-6 is designed for high pressure. If the pressure in the well is at an average or low level, then it is necessary to use the technique of the category simply HB. Such a device is suitable for both single and double well injections, during production tests, during installation of casing strings. It can be used even during stimulation, processing and injection.

The packers will definitely withstand downhole conditions. Reinforced pressure wedges are guaranteed if the model is optimized for high pressure. The forced differential lock serves the same purpose. Both representatives of the series are very easy to lower, remove and move to the right place. This is achieved by an extremely large bypass section. Adjustment is made by turning ¼ to the right.

The automatic lower block allows you to secure the pad in a retracted position. The mandrel is very strong, which allows you to maximize the resistance to breaking and breaking forces. The HB-6 packer is designed so that the hold-down wedges are separated from the tubing, which eliminates running resistance.

Three-section wedges are very strong. They are fully drawn in at the stage of entry into the well, and during the withdrawal from it. The JGS-K Thermal Packer is praised for its simplicity. It is economical and unified.

At the same time, it is also a compensating tubing device for the hottest applications, that is, for operation at very high temperatures. JGS-K is suitable for both injection and production wells. It can be used in steam and fire flooding complexes.

The seal in this system is designed for high operating temperatures. The seal remains secure from above and below as long as the temperature does not exceed 650 degrees Fahrenheit (or 343 degrees Celsius, respectively). Any moving part is coated by default with molybdenum disulphide. Mandrel of various lengths to be polished. Its purpose is to allow expansion and contraction of the tubing string. JGS-K Thermal Packer has excellent functionality.

The locator adapter that comes with the pipe connection can be ordered with premium threads. There is also a special Kelly Bumper device. Its stroke reaches 36 inches. Therefore, the installation of the packer at a shallow depth with a small mass of tubing is guaranteed in any case. Mounting is done after a quarter turn clockwise.

High temperature packing will remain watertight at normal operating temperature for at least the warranty period. Serrated wedges make it possible to exclude the packer from shifting due to pressure drops in any case. It is not allowed to install the pressure wedges prematurely — the designers also take special care of this. To obtain the wiper springs, special spring steel is used. A hard coating is applied to it, which eliminates wear. The mandrel is made of stainless steel. This minimizes the risk of corrosion.

The sealing package is supplemented with a body ring in the form of the letter V. Such a ring on the stuffing box body perfectly retains pressure, wherever it comes from. Repair and maintenance of the packer is very simple. The most common failures are high-temperature packing and shear pins.

Relief valves and Kelly valves

TIW designs and manufactures original relief and Kelly valves in ball format. API specifications are impeccably observed during their development and release. Additionally, internal corporate requirements are fulfilled, which are thought out taking into account many years of experience in working and operating equipment in various conditions and places. That is why we can say without a doubt about the highest possible quality.

Safety ball valves from TIW enable quick and reliable shutdown of drill strings. As a result, impact protection is guaranteed to pay back all the costs of purchasing such equipment. Category 1 and 2 Kelly valves can be safety devices on drill rods. It is also possible to use them for their intended purpose — as an upper or lower Kelly tap. Such models will allow you to keep pressure from both directions.

The design methodology and approach to quality control of such valves has an official certificate from API, which already confirms the technical merits of the products. Kelly valves are also suitable for handling hydrogen sulfide. This point is fully consistent with the basic NACE standards. Typical pressure rating is 10,000 pounds per square inch. Testing with a higher medium pressure is allowed.

Anchor-deflector

The TIW 1-jaw progressive anchor with bottom-mounted release mechanism securely holds the whipstock in cased holes. As a result, sidetracking will be easier. The anchor is placed on the drill pipe immediately in conjunction with the whipstock and starting cutter. It is positioned by marking the bottom of the well. Positioning is carried out by pulling into the hole to the required installation depth. The drill string must be compressed, otherwise the anchor will not set and the bolt will not shear properly. The anchor is removed as needed without any problems. The wedge-deflector must be fixed in this case. As with installation, a force is applied to the drill string. Anchor-deflector is a good retrievable mechanical apparatus.

Bi-directional glide features the Double-Grip Bottom-Trip Anchor. Such an anchor makes it possible to exclude the movement of whipstocks both up and down. Like single-grip tools, it allows precise centering of the whipstock inside the casing string.

This device will take a strictly designated location for it. Anchor is placed by marking the bottom of the pit or another false bottom. The shearing of the special bolt on the starting mill is achieved in tension and compression. This does not require the movement of the anchor itself or the wedge-deflector. If necessary, you can remake the anchor (give it an extractable shape) directly in the field. This is usually a permanently removed device.

Mechanical Packer SS-WSA-BB (large bore)

This variation of the TIW packer is ideal for completing multilateral wells. It is optimally designed to work with a removable latch block. Thanks to this solution, the packer guarantees the extraction of the coupled anchor and whipstock. The design has a large hole. Therefore, the descent of pipes of an impressive cross section is simplified.

The production latch is rigidly blocked as needed. This happens after drilling the window and side segment. The persistent packer works over the WS protocol. The device can be mechanical, hydraulic or cable category.

SS and SS-BB Packers

The TIW® SS and SS-BB (oversized) packers are some of the most advanced fixed packers on the market. Made in the form of high-pressure non-recoverable casing string packers for completing a single-string, alternatively selective or multi-string well. They use universal methods of landing the tool, allowing any of three options: on a logging cable, hydraulic or mechanical.

THS Packer

TIW® THS Hanger Packer for large diameter free end tubing.
Combines the features and benefits of a pressurized fully open isolation packer with the capabilities of a docking socket and liner hanger. It is used in gas storage, waste disposal systems and flooding. The full bore hole along the entire length of the packer with the installed sealing unit corresponds to the inner diameter of the tubing or exceeds it.

Peculiarities

  • The full bore hole along the entire length of the packer with the installed sealing unit corresponds to the inner diameter of the tubing or exceeds it.
  • Gold Seal O-rings protect the sealing elements from damage during running into the well and prevent them from being expelled by temperature and pressure drops.
  • Additional Teflon coating of the pocket hole and packer chamber reduces corrosion due to metal-to-metal friction and exposure to fluids flowing to the well.
  • It is possible to manufacture the packer from corrosion resistant materials suitable for environmentally friendly systems.
  • Strong anti-directional slips prevent the packer from moving in all directions, regardless of forces in the tubing and pressure drop.
  • A single sealing assembly without the use of sealing rings and threaded connections between the sealing elements. It can be completed with sealing rings made of various materials, resistant to aggressive liquids, temperature and pressure.
  • Additional lengths of mating sockets allow the tubing to compress and/or expand in response to changes in pressure and temperature.
  • Combining a mechanical/hydraulic landing tool facilitates landing and testing at shallow depths.
  • Retrieval of the THS packer is done by axial pulling with a conventional tool.

Surge Reduction Tool

It is also called a surge suppression tool. We are talking about the device FlowBoss. Such a device reduces costs and the total period of operation of the liner. It is very useful when working in lining systems. Traditional drilling systems perform well. But everything changes when the device with a float in the tail is immersed in a well with weak layers.

Problems also arise when liner strings are run to tight tolerances. This means a high risk of leakage of industrial fluids, which is neither economical nor environmentally friendly. Compensate for such a danger associated with pressure surges, just allows FlowBoss. It makes it easier for operators to work. If we were talking about the classical technique, then there would be only one way out — to lower the liner incredibly slowly, which is hardly possible in real practice.

Float technology with automatic eyeliner has been produced for a very long time. But for her, the limitation is a specific flow area. And still there is a danger of premature operation. It is associated with a surge when seated on or removed from the wedges. Overflow on the surface cannot be ruled out. The time of work with the auto-filling system, as it turned out, does not decrease too much. With a large volume of float equipment, this approach does not prevent a significant amount of liquid from moving inside the liner string.

The special tool FlowBoss eliminates such a defect. The development of TIW makes it possible to divert the liquid displaced into the internal volume of the liner back to the annular section above the liner. The designers have provided a cam of a special design. The rotating ball seat will open as soon as the ports are closed. This will allow the ball to go further into the well. As a result, a smooth bore is maintained that does not interfere with the deformation of the piston plugs.

The check node is located above the FlowBoss. It allows you to evaluate the tightness of the ports after closing. The principle of operation is the same — based on a rotating ball seat. When rotated, it releases the descent ball into the hole and activates the float system.

Casing Opener CTO

The complex for opening casing pipes is time-tested. It is suitable for work on collapsed areas in casing or tubing strings. You can put such equipment on functional columns of drilling or tubing pipes. Its action is performed by a hydraulic mechanism. A drive containing many pistons and an anchoring complex can generate a solid force. As a consequence, the passage through the collapsed area, including for the conical anvil, is simplified. Maintenance tools will then be able to pass through the problem area themselves. Pulling loads act inside, not on the surface.

Even with the limited capacity of the drilling machine, the system works effectively. The risk of breakage of the column and lifting equipment under the action of tensile forces and impacts is reduced. Installation and setup are simplified compared to ground vehicles. SRT can be launched until the anvil exits to the top of the destroyed system. If necessary, repeatedly. The anchor should rotate to the right. The ball will fall exactly to the right place, applying pressure. In this case, the power block is activated.

The power section will push the anvil through the collapsed area. After each impact, the direct thrust system releases the anchor and returns it to its original position. Further, the impulse is weakened and the passage in the power unit is closed. Anchor is forced to the beginning. Having dropped it, pressure is applied, conducting the next stroke with the tool. Work is carried out until the collapsed section is fully opened.

CPT High Load Borehole Jack

This is the name of the tool for removing the casing. This tool from TIW comes into play when the drill or casing is not strong enough to carry it. CPT can be used as a substitute for pipe lift from the surface. In the bottom part, a rotary pin assembly is provided. It is suitable for use with casing cutting tools.

Other standard tools may also be used. CPT in any case will maintain the desired traction. It can be used to remove not only casing pipes, but also other materials from casing strings or wellbores. In fact, this is such a hydraulic jack. After the casing is installed and marked, wedges hydraulically mount the CPT on the wall. Then they will be disconnected mechanically. It is very important that the column has a large section inside.

Pressure is applied so that everything goes up. As soon as the turn is completed, the anchors will be released. It is allowed to reset the force element and reapply the anchor as many times as necessary. The pull force is applied to the object, not on the surface. Even with the limited power of the drilling system, the device helps out. When using CPT, the work string and lifting equipment will not suffer from stretching or impact. You can mount and configure everything pretty quickly.

JGS-K Heat Resistant Packer

The TIW® JGS-K Heat Resistant Packer is a simple and economical complete casing packer and tubing compensator for extreme high temperature applications. Designed for both injection and production wells. Ideal for use in steam flooding and when creating a moving fire in the formation. Heat-resistant armid-filled sealing device provides reliable top or bottom sealing up to 650°F. All moving parts are coated with molybdenum sulphide. A polished mandrel is available in various lengths to allow expansion and contraction of the tubing string.

Peculiarities

  • Locking sub available, equipped with pipe connector, with higher quality threads
  • 36" workpipe impact sub travel allows packer to be set in shallow water with minimal tubing weight
  • JGS-K packer requires ¼ turn clockwise to seat
  • Heat resistant sealing device provides a high performance anti-fog seal up to 650°F
  • Serrated slips hold the packer against pressure drops from above or below. Retaining slips prevent premature landing
  • Scraper springs made of spring steel with TIW hardfacing to prevent wear
  • Stainless steel JGS-K mandrel available for corrosion protection
